An Example of Forensic Linguistics
For example, a board of directors might want to assess corporate
communications to determine if there were instances, or a pattern, of
discrimination in human resources. While there may be huge numbers of relevant
documents, techniques of corpus and linguistic analysis can make the process
manageable by greatly reducing the number of documents that need to be
examined. Conversely, a legal or security team may need to know whether a
particular text or recording has linguistic characteristics that could either
implicate or eliminate a suspect. Careful analysis by a forensic linguist can
reveal this.
